Loomis Street Bascule Bridge Rehabilitation
PROJECT BACKGROUND
TranSmart provided structural engineering design services to repair the bascule bridge and two-span, fixed-approach viaduct at Loomis Street over the south branch of the Chicago River. This included replacing steel stringers and steel-grid bridge deck panels; deck slab repairs on the bascule fixed spans; and sidewalk brackets, panels, and railings. Repairs to the approach viaduct included deck slab repairs, placement of a new overlay, expansion joint replacement, formed concrete substructure repairs, and epoxy sealing cracked concrete. As a subconsultant, TranSmart prepared plans and specifications for completion by CDOT’s in-house forces.
