JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Engineering Intern
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: TranSmart is looking for undergraduate and graduate college students pursuing engineering degrees to apply for summer internships with us in our Chicago office. Applicants should be at a sophomore level or higher in an engineering degree program focused on roadway design, drainage, traffic, electrical, or structural engineering.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepare maps and plans

Visit sites to ensure proper installation of products

Respond to queries of public and other departments in a satisfactory manner

Perform daily duties such as issuance of permits and review of applications
-
Perform compilation of data and convert them into plans
-
Make an estimation of the cost of materials and read and interpret technical documents
-
Maintain files and supporting documentation in accordance with company policy and accepted practices
-
Construction inspection or field reconnaissance as assigned (within in the Chicagoland region)

Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Working towards a bachelor’s or graduate degree in an engineering degree program from an accredited ABET-EAC university

Ability to read blue prints and work independently on tasks assigned

Knowledge of engineering standards as well as state and local regulations a plus
-
Skilled at operating CAD systems and applications
-
Willingness to work in the field as requested, keeping safety as a priority

Valid Illinois driver's license, preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Safety related activities are performed primarily in the field for construction projects. For design and engineering phases of safety work, a standard office environment with extensive contact and frequent interruptions is to be expected.
